Couples have been eloping since the Thirteenth Century if you can believe it or
not. The rise of social media in our lives has given a new breathe to new
wedding trends and what kinds of ways two can get married.
The Micro Wedding found it's popularity during the Covid-19 pandemic when couples found themselves faced with having to downsize and reworking how to have the day they've planned but within guidelines that either their state laws set or for their personal safety decisions. But do not get me wrong, a micro wedding is NOT a stripped down wedding.
Simple a Micro Wedding is a wedding day that is celebrated in a smaller gathering, usually less than 50 people. A Micro Wedding is still a full wedding day celebration, in any way that you want it. I've been honored to photograph some very sweet Micro Weddings hosted at Air&B spaces, in Hotels, and in the backyards of a family member. I've had couples choose to have a Micro Wedding because of health and chronic illness issues, and for the simple fact that they wanted to get married but hate being the center of attention. In reality, you DO NOT have to have any reason why you want a Micro Wedding to justify having one.
So if a Micro Wedding is just like a Traditional Western Wedding then why have a one?
Couples who choose to have a Micro Wedding choose to do so for many reasons, but some of the most popular reasons are lower cost, less stress, and the ability for freedom and flexibility during their day. The larger the guest list is, the tighter the schedule has to be for the day and the couple ends up spending most of their time going around table to table greeting everyone. When couples tend to choose a smaller guest list it opens the day for them and their guests to be able to relax, take their time, choose unique activities to be part of their day, and in all get to enjoy themselves without having to take on so much stress.
It's good to remember that no matter what kind of way you choose to plan your wedding day, there will always be some kind of list of pros and cons but overall the way you choose should make you feel safe, excited, and no stress.
